At the meeting, the Minister Dinh La Thang has asked the authorities to deploy Railway Development Strategy 2030, which, in specifying the objectives of the program modernization of the North – South railway as items, road construction, train types ... to public.

Minister Thang also mentioned the content should consult independent experts and citizens on the North - South railway line. It was to build a double gauge line on the North - South line or build 2 segments Hanoi - Vinh, and HCM City - Nha Trang. The Minister said that with the short distance of 300 km route, it was easy to invest but some experts said the distances above 900 km will operate more efficiently.

The Minister directed the research departments to establish the scheme of the North-South high-speed railway by 2020 to report the building plan to the National Assembly.

According to railway development strategy approved by the Prime Minister earlier this year, by 2020, the transport sector will study to build new high-speed railway, sometimes suffering 1,435m double track, in preparation to build in advance the road sections with large transportation needs such as Hanoi - Vinh and Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang.

From 2020 to 2030, the transport sector will build the rail system train speed reaching 160 - 200km /hour, 1,435m double track and upgrade the infrastructure to be able to exploit 350 km/hour high-speed train in the future.

By 2050, to complete high-speed rail double track suffering around 1,435 meters on the North - South route; after 2050 will operate high speed train at 350 km/hour; and complete the Highland railway, Trans-Asia railway ...
